My mumsy was creative from her schooldays, when she was bright but chafed against discipline. Because she only really put any effort into art, was advised that she should become an art teacher. She didn't, and instead went into a range of jobs. Lesson one: you decide how you want to use your creativity.
When it became apparent in school that I was bright, and some teachers felt I under achieved, my mum challenged back that they should be happy to have such an easy student, and told me she'd be proud of me whatever I did. When I got a B rather than A or A* in art - because I wanted to to a project which interested me, rather than the boring one suggested for me - I was still congratulated.
Lesson three: grades aren't as important as enjoying your life.
Unfortunately my mum passed away just over two weeks ago, February 12th, and her funeral is today. Fortunately, she has left me with lifelong lessons, and even more fortunately we were able to discuss what we had learnt from each other, and how proud we were of each other's achievements. My creative path is genuinely inspired by my mum, and will continue to be so until I am in my purple dress and red hat, knocking back red wine with the art guild.
Make sure, if someone has inspired you, that you take a few minutes to let them know. Be it a stranger whose jewellery tutorials you've seen develop on YouTube, or a family member who has given you support: It will probably make their day.

This amazing lady was my big sister and as she inspired my niece she also inspired me and was always there when I needed her. She was also a much loved Aunty to my son Jack and we will miss her so much but always treasure the memories xxx

I am proud to have called Tracy my cousin. The thing I am sorry about was not being able to see her before she left us. She was a talented lady who was always there for Lisa and the rest of the family and Paul her long suffering husband. I will always remeber her as I look at her paintings I have and think fondly of the chidhood we had when she would come to Grandma Wabys in the scool holidays where we could catch up on life. I wish Lisa all the best with what she is doing and Mum walks with you always.
