Don't Lose Out: Show your Designing and Making!

Do you show people how you design and make what you design and make?

Because if not, you may be loosing out by not helping customers connect with your products!

Buyers Don't Think!

Meet the Maker, and event run by Made in Nottingham, drove home to me how key it is to show and tell about what you design and make.

As designer makers shared their processes with folks browsing the shop, despite the point of Made in Nottingham being summed up in the shop's name, some shoppers were surprised to find people making things themselves.

Every day can be Halloween. Just do it!

Halloweeny things need not only be for Halloween, or for "goths" (I use the speech-marks to denote the sort of uncertain tones some people use when espying folks in black) We keep being told to be comfortable being ourselves, so if you want to wear bats, skulls and bones, rock them!

One of my favourite tops is my glow in the dark skeleton.

Is it intended to be part of a Halloween costume? Yes.
Do I wear it pretty much all year round? Yes!
Do people joke about it not being Halloween yet?
Yes, but I say "I like this top, and I wear what I like!"
(Does it elicit confused sounds from people when while camping I wander around in the dark, glowing? oh yes...)

Meet the Maker - Hello Nottingham!

Seeing something take shape before your very own eyes means that a piece of art, or sewing, or jewellery has real skills and a very real person behind it.

So when I was invited to Meet the Maker being run by Made in Nottingham, I was on it like a seagull with a chip!

Over October 1st seven different designer makers popped in and out of the Made in Nottingham shop, sharing their processes and smiles with the good folks browsing the Broadmarsh shopping centre.

So how was it?
