Buy Just A Card and Spread Joy

27/11/2015

"They're very impressive."
"We love this place, it's so individual!"
"Hasn't the lady made some nice things?"

All of that feeds the ego, but not the cats.

The Just A Card initiative is trying to raise awareness that if people buy anything, even just a card, from a local small business, independent retailer, designer maker... Well, those people will be much more likely to stay in business, and have a much better Christmas to boot.

Granted, you can buy a whole box of cards from the supermarket, for what one card may cost from a small business. But as well as helping someone continue to do what they love, you're giving something special which says "I chose this for you" or "I thought of you and had to get this".

Just one card specially bought for your parents, partner or best mate shows them that they mean more than a choice between the Santa or Robin design in the box of 40 cards from Asda.

You'll find some ace ideas if you look for #justacard on Twitter, or simply bear it in mind as you browse craft fairs and small shops, and make the simple step to buy just one card for someone who deserves the extra thought.

Want some great sources for cards (and more?) then  read on for links to a couple of places and people I like to buy from!
Ooh! Nice Things!

“If everyone who’d complimented our beautiful gallery had bought just a card we’d still be open.”

When I read this quote by shop keepers who’d recently closed their gallery I thought - enough is enough - we need to fight back! - Sarah Hamilton

How to Get Handmade - (as well as giving it)

23/11/2015

Deciding to buy handmade for others is easy, but how do you get others to buy handmade for you? Friends and family may not place the same value on buying handmade, not know where to shop, or not feel confident about what to get you. Good news, it's easy to try and fix this!

I can't promise it'll change what you get, but you'll at least know you gave it a go.

Making the most of a slow craft fair!

20/11/2015

A lot of us are busy with craft fairs at this time of year, but what if the craft fairs themselves aren't busy?

If no-one is coming to an event you're a stallholder at, will you grumble, or step up and make it as productive a day as possible?

I wrote a post about this last year, so it's a great one to go back to and make sure you make the most of any slow craft fair you may be stuck at.
