You want to see your friends and family successful in their small business endeavors, but it’s not always easy supporting them. Time, money, energy, all things we don't have much of... But there are lots of different ways you can help, so it may be easier than you think! You may not have the money to spend, or perhaps don't need what they provide, or live too far away to make use of them. But whether your friends and family are illustrators and creators, the car fixers or plasterers, the people who do tattoos or hair, the independent shop owners, the cake bakers and caterers, you can support their small business in quite a few simple ways. Read on for the ideas in full!

You're opening an etsy store! Whoop whoop! Exciting as it is, there’s a lot of groundwork, much of which can feel a bit boring. I know, I do it grudgingly. That groundwork is essential though, as it helps you create a professional looking store which more people will find, and then want to buy from. This is my distillation of what I've learnt and found useful. It's a bit whistle stop, so do go and look up better posts elsewhere about more details for photography for example. For now, grab a brew and get reading!
Before you upload a listing, get shop basics done! You have a logo and a name, job’s a guddun right? Well, it really does help to complete your about and policies, and perhaps a couple of FAQ’s. Etsy helps you through this quite a bit, but if you’re struggling, have a look at another couple of relevant Etsy sellers you admire, and see the sort of things they have said.
Right, let's get ready for listing prep! Posting an Instagram photo every day, based on someone else’s suggestions? That may sound like a chore, but Instagram challenges are well worth trying out!
Instagram challenges are usually run over a month, with an overarching topic, and a prompt each day – you post a photo using the challenge specific hashtag, relating to the topic and daily prompt. Good challenge setters usually provide a downloadable sheet, so you can plan and jot down ideas against the daily prompts, or you can wing it on a daily basis! Alongside posting images to meet the topic and prompts, you’re encouraged to look at what else people are sharing under the challenge hashtag. As I write this, I’m a few days into Joanna Payne’s #colourmyeveryday challenge, and really enjoying it! So how do you benefit from joining an Instagram challenge? |
