I will admit that a hurdle here is getting the frame! In the UK a great supplier is Wilkinsons, who stock three sizes at very cheap prices and you can buy online if there isn’t a store near you. If you can’t find the right one for you, there are tutorials online for converting a standard frame into a box frame.
Lay out the objects on the backing, pop the back (and if necessary the glass) out of the frame, and start to mock up your display. Move things around, go get a drink, come back, do you still like it? I was torn between using the tree, which looked good, or using the annotations. I settled for the latter, as that’s more personal for me, and then tried the pencil and brush in a few locations.
Take a photo for reference, and use a pencil to mark the backing outside the frame, then to carefully mark the points to secure your objects. You’ll be ‘sewing’ the objects to the backing card, so this will depend on your objects. You may be able to add a couple of loops around them, or need to pierce/drill holes in them to secure through. Think about the objects staying secure once the frame is upright!
Remove the frame and objects, cut the backing to size, and use the frame to mark and cut a card backing. Use double sided tape to secure the decorative backing to the card backing. Use the needle to pop small holes as marked for the thread (a lump of sticky tak underneath to push the needle into helps)
Cut lengths of your clear thread so they’ll go around your objects, with a generous extra for tying knots/securing. This is a stage where a third hand can be useful! Poke the thread through the holes punched in the backing, round/through your object, and back into the backing. I used jewellery crimps (find out more here), but you can also knot, and secure with a small careful blob of superglue. With each thread, double check the object is still sat how you would like it to, and that you haven’t twisted or turned it.
